- Where the browser has no MediaStreamTrackProcessor, effects draw each
frame through a canvas: slower, and the first build stalls the page.
They stay offered and choosable there, with a notice under the grid
that says so and describes the group.
- Decided in the view model, beside whether effects can run at all, so
the lobby and the call give the same answer.
- The notice stays within the menu's width however long the sentence,
which the story checks.

- The camera menu's blur toggle becomes a Background effects section
under the cameras: no effect, blur and the two shipped backgrounds as
one radio choice of tiles, three across. It scrolls with the device
list, so it stays reachable in a short call, and choosing keeps the
menu open. The lobby gets it too, as both render the same footer.
- The footer's view model gives the options, the notice and the actions;
the footer only names them.
- Each tile is Compound's MenuItem as a menuitemradio, styled as a tile.
Compound makes it an item of the dropdown, so the arrow keys walk the
tiles with the device rows, and takes its tap in the phone drawer. A
tile that can't be chosen has no select handler, so the keyboard passes
over it.
- Where the browser can't run effects the tiles are shown, disabled and
explained by a notice the group is described by. No effect stays
choosable and shows as in force. The notice is in the scrolling list,
so a short call doesn't push the menu out of it.
- Section headings are raised, or the positioned tiles scroll over the
one they sit under; raised within the list only, so the menu's frame
stays over them. Tiles clip with overflow: clip; with hidden they are
scroll containers, which focus scrolls into view without their border.
- End to end on Chromium and Firefox: a shipped background chosen in the
lobby shows in the preview, and None after Blur draws nothing, counted
in WebGL draws (Blur: about 1400 a second on Chromium, 2300 on
Firefox).
- The Quick Audio Menu's test of the camera menu keeps its name and now
finds blur among the effects rather than as a toggle.

Port of edf1feae from johannes/rtc-remote-publish onto the SDK split,
where
the MatrixRTC logic lives in sdk/ rather than src/state/CallViewModel/.
Where the original lands:
- getLocalTransport's remote fallback: the LiveKit backend's new
findRemotePublishTransport (sdk/src/media-backend/livekit/
RemotePublishTransport.ts), which tries the candidates from the
js-sdk's
getRemoteLivekitPublishCandidates oldest first and keeps the first
whose
homeserver issues a token with the publish grant.
discoverLocalTransport
asks the backend for it after the host's fallback, with a snapshot of
the
session's memberships from RTCParticipation, and throws
MatrixRTCTransportMissingError where that finds nothing too. Transport
discovery stays backend neutral: the MSC4195 token check is the
backend's.
- LocalMember's "no delegation on a remote SFU" and the custom
transport's
server_name: LivekitBackend.prepareLocalTransport locates the
transport on
the homeserver it names (serverNameOfTransport) and skips the
delegation
probe where that is not our own.
- SessionBehaviors' membership.getTransportServerName: the same helper
in
LivekitBackend.mediaFor.
- decodeSFUJWTPayload, SFUJWTPayload.video.canPublish and the exported
isCsApiUnavailable: sdk/src/media-backend/livekit/auth/.
- DeveloperSettingsTab, the widget capabilities, the locale string and
the
js-sdk pin (9405287c, 44.0.0): applied as is. The error boundary
snapshots follow the string.
Tests: the LocalTransport cases go to RemotePublishTransport.test.ts and
LocalTransport.test.ts, the LocalMember remote case and the
SessionBehaviors
server-name case to LivekitBackend.test.ts, plus the memberships
snapshot in
RTCParticipation.test.ts.

The developer setting that overrode the LiveKit service URL becomes a
JSON transport, so that a `url`-only or combined transport can be tested
against a homeserver that does not advertise one yet. The settings modal
shows each LiveKit room's role instead of a never-populated isLocal flag.
* Give the microphone level its own observable
* Add a microphone level meter
* Show speakers and microphones in the quick audio menu
* Wire speaker selection through the call footer
* Add stories for the meter and the device menu
* Add end-to-end specs for the quick audio menu
* Keep the footer while a menu opened from it is open
* Use the shared audio capture stub in the lobby test

toggleScreenSharing only had `.catch(logger.error)`, so a getDisplayMedia
request that hangs (element-call-rageshakes#17152: Element Desktop on
Windows, the user pressed the screen share button 14 times in 25 seconds
and the log shows nothing but the toggle lines and livekit-client's
"waiting for pending publication promise timed out") left the user with
a button that does nothing and us with no evidence of why.
Log when a toggle is requested and when it completes or fails, with the
elapsed time, so a hang is visible in the logs. Explicit failures other
than the user cancelling the picker show as a non-modal "Could not start
screen sharing" toast. Nothing is inferred from a toggle taking a long
time: the user may simply be choosing what to share.
This is the mode in which we sent membership events with the 'oldest membership' transport selection algorithm, which stopped being the default back in version 0.21.0. Users will no longer be able to select this mode in developer settings, and admins will no longer be able to select legacy mode through the config either. The app will still continue to support *receiving* membership events with the 'oldest membership' transport selection algorithm from others, however.
Run `yarn i18n` to extract new translation keys for the media quality
settings, and update the DeveloperSettingsTab snapshot to include the
Camera quality, Screen sharing, and Audio processing sections.

The local jwt token needs to be aquired via the right endpoint. The
endpoint defines how our rtcBackendIdentity is computed. Based on us
using sticky events or state events we also need to use the right
endpoint. This cannot be done generically in the connection manager. The
jwt token now is computed in the localTransport and the resolved sfu
config is passed to the connection manager.
Add JWT endpoint version and SFU config support Pin matrix-js-sdk to a
specific commit and update dev auth image tag. Propagate SFU config and
JWT endpoint choice through local transport, ConnectionManager and
Connection; add JwtEndpointVersion enum and LocalTransportWithSFUConfig
type. Add NO_MATRIX_2 auth error and locale string, thread
rtcBackendIdentity through UI props, and include related test, CSS and
minor imports updates
- Replace MatrixLivekitItem with MatrixLivekitMember, add displayName$
and participantId, and use explicit LiveKit participant types
- Make sessionBehaviors$ accept a props object and return a typed
RxRtcSession
- Update CallViewModel to use the new session behaviors, rebuild media
items from matrixLivekitMembers, handle missing connections and use
participantId-based keys
- Change localMembership/localTransport to accept Behavior-based
options, read options.value for enterRTCSession, and fix advertised
transport selection order
- Update tests and minor UI adjustments (settings modal livekitRooms
stubbed) and fix JSON formatting in locales
Remove preferStickyEvents and multiSfu in favor of a MatrixRTCMode
enum/setting (Legacy, Compatibil, Matrix_2_0). Move session join/leave,
track pause/resume, and config error handling out of CallViewModel into
the localMembership module. Update developer settings UI, i18n strings,
and related RTC session helpers and wiring accordingly.
